The Solar Plexus and cancer

The solar plexus is our power chakra. It is from this energetic centre that we negotiate our sense of self in relation to the world - our reality. This includes relationships, work, health, food and nourishment, our creativity, and most crucially, whether we can accept that we are active co-creators in our life.

By accepting my cancer diagnosis, I wasn’t saying that I had caused my disease, that I deserved it, or that I was solely to blame. What I did acknowledge were the many ways in which I had not been respecting my body, mind or spirit. This enabled me to avoid viewing myself as a victim and the false belief that I was at the mercy of fate. Only I could restore balance in my life. I did not rely only on medical staff, therapies and surgical procedures, although I was extremely grateful for the guidance, support and life-saving treatment I received. I had to go within my own heart and mind to discover what I needed to do to support my physical, mental and emotional health, then embody this in my daily life. In hindsight, this was a gradual process of reconnecting with my inner source of power, which I had long been denying.

When a person is carrying years or decades of unresolved emotional energy, they tend to recreate the same situations and relationship patterns until something happens to shatter the illusion that they are powerless. When we become aware that emotional experiences from the past can affect our physical body in the present moment, facing painful emotions that cause our mind to dwell on situations from long ago doesn't seem so scary: it becomes a pathway to liberation and long-lasting health.

Every person presenting with cancer will have dysfunction at the solar plexus. Our power drains from our energetic system through conflict with others, polarisation, anger, shame, aggression, feeling victimised... When unaddressed or ignored over extended periods of time, this energy deficit continues until the body manifests physical symptoms.  When the shortage is chronic, a disease such as cancer will manifest in the area of the body where there is the most significant energetic dysfunction. With colon cancer, the root chakra is the site of manifestation.

Looking at the conflicts within ourselves is crucial. Learning how the chakras interact with the physical body is an empowering step in navigating one’s physical, emotional and mental terrain.
