Restoring Balance to the Spirit

Making peace with cancer

Spending time on your own to reflect will enable you to grow in clarity within yourself. This inner clarity and understanding of the self will be reflected in your lived experience. Only through identifying imbalance can real and effective change be enacted.

Perhaps there is a person you have wanted to contact for a while but have been putting off. Maybe there are important conversations you need to have, or relationships where healing could be soothing for both parties. Forgiveness is a necessary step and releases us from the past and feelings of regret, blame, shame and anger, freeing much-needed energy in the system to support the physical healing of the body. A cancer diagnosis can be a catalyst in finally setting down unhealthy thoughts and stories which keep us trapped in emotional turmoil and our spirit in a state of unrest.

This is not to suggest that we by-pass uncomfortable emotions by pretending we feel at peace, while deep down resentment and other difficult emotions continue to fester. True and lasting healing require authenticity. When the face we present to the outside world differs from the emotional vibration of one’s inner world, we are suppressing our true feelings. As we move further into the age of energy, and talk of our inner senses and experience become more commonplace, people will respect and trust their intuition because energy – the emotions – does not lie. It simply is. Not being honest about inner thoughts and feelings creates further imbalance which can result in stagnancy or chaos in our external lives. Peace is a choice which involves our active participation. If there is an area of your life where you feel a lack of peace, the most loving action you can take is to change it.

I have never been comfortable with the idea that mankind is in a battle against cancer. At no point in my experience did I feel that I had a fight ahead of me or that I was at war against my body. These thoughts may lead to the creation of more fear in and against the body. This is the opposite of healing and results in further separation between body, mind and spirit.

The body is one part of a holistic system with which we have been gifted. Without the physical body, our soul has no place to reside here on earth. Connecting lovingly to the body is the path to true healing. Thoughts of battle foster disconnection. Being disconnected from my body had contributed significantly to the development of cancer in the first place.  As scary as a cancer diagnosis is, many people have healed and gone on to live long and fulfilling lives. Accepting and coming to peace with cancer allows one to reconnect with the innate, healing power dwelling within us all which guides us to nourish body, mind and spirit. Our emotions are important signals that guide us to that state of balance.
